I am running P10 on a Vista machine and can't seem to figure out how to get
the changes to the configuration to be implemented when Pardox is run. I
have local share set to "on" and need the default table language to "paradox
ascii" ... these are the settings shown in the BDE configuration file, but
table language and sharing still defaults to "ansii" and share off ... help!

Howdy,

(Perhaps you are already doing this but...)

When you leave the BDE Configuration utility, you have to
click Object | Exit | Save.

All the best,

Yes I got that far! I can configure what I want when I use the BDE
Administer and I have confirmed that the settings are properly saved, but
Paradox does not see the new settings ... that's why I'm confused about what
to do.

Is there any chance you have two versions of the BDE running on the
one machine? Regards Paul.

I assume you are running the BDE administrator from the Control panel.

Instead of that, try running the BDEAdmin.EXE from the Borland share folder
by right clicking the EXE and chose "Run as Administrator".

One of the very strangest "fee-churs" of Windows Vista is that, if you
attempt to update a shared file in a protected directory... Windows will
pretend to let you do it!

What it does is to make a private copy of the file, in your own directory,
and let you modify THAT. But it doesn't tell you that it has done so.

The only guess that I can figure is that "some game" must have required
this, and someone (without thinking about its implications too much...)
thought it was "a splendid idea."
